Let’s Talk About Chronic GI Conditions..
This week marked Chronic Disease Day—a day to raise awareness, offer support, and highlight the invisible battles so many of us are fighting, quietly and constantly. For me, that battle lives in my gut.
Chronic gastrointestinal illness isn’t just an upset stomach. It’s not a food intolerance or a “weird phase.” It’s a full-body experience that affects my daily routine, relationships, energy, and mental health. And yet—like so many chronic conditions—it’s invisible. Which means people might see me smiling and walking around and have no idea that I’ve been in survival mode all morning.
π¬ If You’ve Read My Past Blogs…
You’ve seen the day-to-day reality:
☀️ Trying to move my body gently, even if it’s just a short walk on the walking pad because it's too hot outside.
π₯ Eating in small portions all day long to avoid setting off a chain reaction in my gut.
π« Sipping matcha instead of coffee (because coffee and I had a messy breakup).
π Journaling and de-stressing where I can to keep flares in check.
π« Saying no to cookout foods and bringing my own meals, so I don’t spend the night in pain.
π️ Spending entire days on the couch when that’s what my body demands—and learning to be okay with that.
π₯ The Spoon Theory Is Real
Every task costs a spoon.
Every social event costs a spoon.
Some days I’ve got five. Some days I’ve got one—and I use it to shower and collapse back into bed. But other days? I clean the house, go for a walk, see my people, and light a candle to mark the win. (If you know, you know.)
Living with a chronic GI condition means being flexible, being intuitive, and constantly adjusting—and still showing up for life when I can.
✨ Chronic Disease Day = Visibility, Validation, and Voice
If you’re reading this and living with your own chronic diagnosis: you are not alone.
Whether you’ve shared your journey or you’re still navigating it quietly, your experience is valid. Your pain is real. Your progress—no matter how small—is worth celebrating.
And if you’re here to learn or support someone you love, thank you. Awareness is everything. The more we talk about it, the less invisible it becomes.
π Here’s to…
✔️ Taking care of your body—even when that means doing less
✔️ Honoring what your system can and can’t handle
✔️ Replacing guilt with compassion
✔️ Listening when your body whispers, so it doesn’t have to scream
✔️ Letting go of perfection and showing up as you are
Chronic illness doesn’t define me—but it does shape the way I live, love, and move through the world. And I’m learning to do that with grace, humor, and a matcha in hand.
Love you all—thank you for walking this journey with me. π
